So I set the motor currents at,

    M906 X1000 Y1000 Z900 E900 I60 ; Set motor currents (mA) and increase idle current to 60%

When I look at the machine properties –> motor currents they are all 800mA.

    What have I missed please?

You haven't missed anything as far as I can see. However, it appears to me that the motor currents in the Machine Properties page only get updated when you switch to the Settings page from another page. Therefore, if you have the Machine Properties page displayed and you change the motor currents via PanelDue or USB, then in DWC you need to switch away from the Settings page and back to see the updated values.
