duet smart effector

I was wondering if I need 3 endstops on my delta kossel or are they not needed as i assume the smart effector acts as a z probe?

On a delta it's possible to use stall detection homing, but only if you follow homing by at least a 4-point auto calibration cycle (e.g. using the Smart Effector as Z probe). This is because stall detect homing is accurate to +/- 1 full step at best, and on a delta a full step may be up to 0.2mm. You can do the 4-point auto calibration at the end of the homeall.g file if you want, just use the same commands that you would put in bed.g - or just use G32 if you want to perform full auto calibration.
Stall detect homing needs to be tuned, see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Stall_detection_and_sensorless_homing.
A disadvantage of using stall detect homing is that if you want to use the resume-after-power-fail functionality, you won't be able to re-home accurately when the power is restored because the print on the bed prevents you from doing auto calibration.

does the smart effector act as a z probe so could use it to probe bed as z min as home ?

Yes, but you still need to home the 3 towers individually.
