Solved: I had the "COM" wire plugged into the positive and V+ plugged into the negative switches then and everything works.
OP: My duet maestro turns on via usb, but when i wired it all up and tried to run 12v power through it it shorted the whole system the lights attached to the same power supply cut as well. Also the "always on fan" port started smoking, I immediately cut power and detached all the wires. when i plugged the usb power in all lights turn on normally (the usb power light, red 5v and green 3.3v). Interestingly there appears to be no visible damage to the board. Thoughts on my next move. Edit: I tried turning on the board with just the power attached still overheating still smoking, I want to cry I've waiting so long for this and trying to get my delta working and this is the millionth setback idk what to do, (ps: I hate that I love 3d printing so much)

What do/did you have connected to the always-on fan port?

My guess is that you had the + and - fan wires connected the wrong way round. Please check this against the Duet Maestro wiring diagram.

@dc42 thank you, to the best of my knowledge i had it wire correctly. Would that fry the whole board causing it to be inoperable and hiss even when just the 12v power is connected? also is there a fix for this other than buy a new board?

@dc42 so I solved it I had the positive and negative wire from the psu plugged into the opposite screws. Haven't rewired it to see if there's permanent damage will report back to keep it effects documented (this is my walk of shame)
