      Hi

      I just installed a new 5v 5015 Fan.
This fan produces annoying sound at any frequency when not running at 100%.

Searching for a Solution i came accross a post that said you can put a 220 microFarad 16V Capacitor in between the Fan and the Board.
This was for a 12V Fan on an Arduino board.

Would this theoretically work on the duet as well or could this damage the duet?

@veti, I don't recommend that because it could damage the Duet. Instead, try changing the PWM frequency, using the RF parameter of the M106 command (e.g. for Fan 0 try M106 P0 F100, M106 P0 F1000 etc.).

i checked all the frequencies on this fan from 100 to 10000 at which point the fan stops.

Do you have a recommendation for a good 5015 fan at 5v?

@veti I run mine at a frequency of only 10 Hertz. You could also try going that low. It solved most of my issues with noise at running below full speed.

Some fans just don't like have PWM applied to the supply voltage. There is another way, involving an LC filter and a very high PWM frequency.

@Veti See this (lengthy) thread discussing the topic of RC-filter and LC-filter and recommendations by @dc42 on how to select the components for the recommended LC-filter.

unfortunatly 10HZ is still noisier than 100%. It prob is then fan.
Thanks for the link to the Filter, i will have a look.

I also contacted noctua and asked if they would be willing to produce a 5015 pwm fan. They told me the are currently looking into radial fans, but as they do not have much experience with it it might be another year before we see a product.

                      What is you fan?
I suggest buying a genuine Sunon MF50151VX-A99 , they are super powerful and work fine with default PWM settings in Duet.

Thats a 12V fan. I am running the fans at 5V.

                        its a YINWEITAI YWT-0505CH

@veti I suggest going to digikey or mouser and start filtering the radial fan results until you get a few options that look reasonable. Sunon does have 5v options as well. They make a wide range of radial fans with all sorts of properties.

i just ordered the best rated radial fan from amazon. lets see how that ones does.
