Brand new Duet Wifi not working
-
Good evening
After I already printed a case, I finally found the time today to start the conversion of my Ender 3. At least I thought so.
Unfortunately I don't manage to access the board via USB.
When I connect the cable, the red LED next to it glows very weakly. A Mac Pro as well as a Macbook report that the device needs too much power, but it also doesn't work on a USB hub with an external power supply.
There are still no other cables/plugs connected, it can't be a short circuit. The fuses look good.
What can I do?
Best,

If nothing except USB is plugged in, and assuming that the Duet is not resting on a conductive surface, it sounds to me that the Duet is faulty. Ask your supplier to replace it.

Thank you for your reply!
It rests on 4 posts of a case printed from PETG. Shouldn't be conductive.
The cables work, the ports of the computers work. I guess you are right.I bought directly from duet3d.com … whom should I talk to?

See "Warranty procedure" at https://www.duet3d.com/warranty.
If there is any chance that a screw, washer, metal swarf etc. could have landed on it, disconnect it from the USB power first, give it a good shake and blow, then try again.

Thanks for the link and your advice.
I screwed duet onto the base of a printed case made from PETG. I did that on my computer desk, no clutter, no parts – clean surface in a buero, not a shop. Chances are very low that something conductive made its way onto the board.
I gave it a blow front and back with an camera blower. I removed it from the case, inspected front and back visually. And I also swapped the fuses for new ones. (The ones it came with look fine, but I just wanted to be sure. I don't have a multimeter at the office.)
The result stays the same. When I plug the Mini-USB in, the LED next to the connector glims so feint that it is barely visible in daylight. The Mac reports that too much power is drawn and the port isn't mounted.
I you could advise me on the points and expected readings, I should be able to measure the board. But I don't have the expertise to do that with the info I find around this board.
So, if there are no good ideas otherwise, I'll try the warranty.
