Can any kind of inferiror tmc drivers be used as external?

Hello.
I am in the process of wiring my IDEX carthesian printer mod and all i need is one more stepper driver on my duet wifi. I chose to go the "external stepper driver way" for this.
I have read all around and on this forum and realized that this is a doable and logical way for this case. Since while i gladly buy original duet parts, buying duex2 seems a bit overkill since this will be the end of upgrade highway for this machine. (drooling over multitool corexy...)So, the question is, is there a limitation to what stepper drivers can be used as external on duet wifi (v1.04)? Is the only reasonable option to use A4988/DRV8825 breakout board with A4988 steppstick? Or could I use ie. TMC2100 on it? Or any tmc, just so it's silent.. I know A4988 while being used for second extruder stepper shouldn't be that lound, but still.
It will be used for "normal" sized nema17 at most if as for bowden extruder motor, or even pancake if dual direct mode. But i guess it will be just bowden since it is primarily meant to print soluble supports. (i mostly do architectural 3d printed scaled models and this will make things WAY nicer and more fun..)It would be fantastic to be able to wire TMC2660-bob, but i guess this is not doable..Or is it?
Thank you all,
cheers -
TMC2100 would probably be the best choice, although any driver that has a current adjustment potentiometer and will work without being configured by SPI or UART should work.

Woohooo! thank you Dc42 !
so ordinary breakout board and TMC with potentiometer. On it.
