I´m currently evaluating two different electronics and firmwares for my next printer a CoreXY machine. I´m not sure though if there is a eletronic/firmware fullfill all my wishes. Maybe someone has some experience on it.

      1. MABL A "motorised auto bed leveling" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76bUTPKNloM) supported by a combination of DUE + RADDS and the repetier firmware with a height sensor and three z axis motors. Can the same be done on a Duet? Does the Duet support repetier?

      2. Filament feed sensor like the FTS by Sparklab. It uses two wheels, a Hall-E-Endstop and a magnet to measure the movement of the filament and compare it to the steps of the extruder. Thus it is capable of detecting runouts, jams and even to slow down the print. Theoretically it could even be used to autocalibrate new filament. But at least the aforementioned options are already supported by repetier. Can RepRapFirmware and duet do the same?

      3. PT100 simply an option i´d like to have but requires soldering and tinkering with the RADDS solution. One of the reasons i´d prefer the duet as is seems to me a better out of the box solution. Clean and easy. Also the ease of use and configuring seems to be intriguing. I´m not sure if RADDS/repetier can compete there.

      Thanks.

Yes to the main points of 1 & 3 although I have not used Repiteier so can't comment on that. 3 requires an additional daughter board but it mounts onto the main board.

As to 2 filament run out is easy and there is a magnetic filament sensor in the works.

The latter is a key thing that would trigger an upgrade of one of my machines to Duet version 2 (...or the pending 3!).

Running 3 P3Steel with Duet 2. Duet 3 on the shelf looking for a suitable machine. One first generation Duet in a Logo/Turtle style robot!

Duet supports the same thing, see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Bed_levelling_using_multiple_independent_Z_motors. You can probe as many points as you like (at least one per leadscrew) and RRF adjusts the ladscrews to perform least squares minimisation of the height errors.

I don't know the FTS, but we already make a laser filament monitor, and our magnetic one should be in production soon. The laser one has a resolution of 0.02mm with filaments that play nicely with it, and the magnetic one has a resolution of around 0.026mm. I think you will find this is higher than any other filament monitor on the market. Both detect not only the speed but also the direction of filament motion, so they can tell whether filament is being extruded or retracted. RepRapFirmware compares measured to commanded filament motion and pauses the print if it goes outside the limits you set.

Thanks for all the answers. I´m convinced. Especially seeing that there is developement and dedication is reassuring. I´m looking forward to see the filament sensors emerge. And sorry the point about the Bed Leveling... i´ve obviously overlooked that or simply searched with the wrong words...

Concerning the feed sensors: Will it be possible to use them to calibrate the extrusion speed? e.g. running an extrusion and comparing the intented steps/distances with the measurements so you can finetune the maximum extrusion speed?

@rivam that's the impression I have over what has been said about the magnetic filament sensor hense why I'm keep to see it but I'm not the developers or testers.

Using the laser filament monitor: yes, because it reports absolute distances.

Using the magnetic filament monitor: not sure. The filament rotates a hobbed shaft, so the calibration will depend on how accurately that shaft is machined, and possibly on how soft the filament is. So you might need to do an initial calibration at low speeds, then the filament monitor could calibrate the nonlinear extrusion coefficients needed for high speed extrusion.
