      Hi

I would like to know generally if it speaks anything against to mount my Duet board outside the printer. I ask because I am on the brink of installing it into/upon my old Anycubic I3 Mega and the USB / SDCARD slots are quite different to the Duet Wifi board. And because I've seen many printers with their mainboard mounted outside I just asking myself if there is any disadvantage of doing so? Do I still need a ventilator if mounted outside?

you can access the board quicker. the ventilation will depend on the stepper current used.

Thanks, they are rated at 1.5A each.

Nothing speaks against it, but you should put it in an enclosure to avoid it being shorted out. A Tupper Ware or cardboard box is sufficient to begin with, but there are some nice models out there (I am partial to Ocie's box because it has space for cable management unlike many other designs).

If you have a Duet WiFi with integrated antenna your reception may improve if you mount the board upright with the wifi module on top.

That would depend on your stepper and heater currents as well as your ambient temperature. But in general the ambient temperature outside should be lower than inside a enclosed printer so the board should run cooler by placing it outside. Some sort of ventilated enclosure is still recommended for physical protection, weather or not you need a fan will depend on the aforementioned factors.

I have a "three story" Lack table enclosure for an Anycubic Kossel Linear+ running a duet. The board (and power supply) is mounted below the lowest table, outside the enclosure. The duet is mounted vertically, to encourage convective circulation, with no fans.

Has worked great for months (maybe over a year, I just don't remember).
