      Hi all! 🙂

Until now I have used blue tape on a mirror (with some wood glue applied onto it if needed) and I didn't have any adhesion issues. Sometimes the prints even adhered so well that I tore up the tape when trying to get them off the build plate. For that reason I want to ditch the tape but since I have a relatively large build plate, BuildTak or similar is out of the question because it's just to expensive.
The problem with printing on bare mirror however is the Z probing with the Duet3D IR probe which won't work on a mirror according to the description. That's why I'm asking myself if anyone has tried roughing up the mirror to create a surface on which the IR probe will reliably work.
      Thanks in advance! 🙂

That might work; but another possibility is to replace the mirror with ordinary float glass, with a matt black surface underneath it.

Isn't regular glass opaque to IR?

@zapta said in IR probe on roughed up mirror?:

Isn't regular glass opaque to IR?

Not really as David said if you place a matt black surface under the glass the IR will be reflected back up, i use cheap matt black vehicle vinyl works perfect.

Thanks for your replies! I will test that as soon as I get my printer up and running again! 🙂
