there is a new mechanic in osx which suspends the js thread when the tab is not in foreground.
that is what is causing the problem.
            try firefox or chrome.

I can not speak for @r123, but for me this is happening 90% of the time I go to the DWC URL in Safari for the first time. The tab is in the foreground while doing this.

@themelle yep I get it when I launch DWC 2 for the first time having just powered up the printer and with a new tab always in the foreground: can see the flickering temperatures but can't access the controls so have to immediately perform a page reload.

Firefox comes up bright and good on first load of the page.

Safari seems to require two loads.

                    Safari: Version 13.0.4 (15608.4.9.1.3)

                      It does work in Chrome.
No clue about Firefox as I don't use it.

                      Safari JavaScript console says
"WebSocket connection to 'ws://ikossel.local/machine' failed: Unexpected response code: 200"
                      on opening DWC.

(though a HTTP 200 does not seem like an unusual response code to me)

                      Maybe @chrishamm has an idea?

The implementation of the "Connecting" dialog (including the annoying gray backdrop) has changed in DWC 2.0.5. I haven't been able to reproduce this bug since then.
