Duet 3 wiring questions
-
Looking over the wiki pages (and comparing them to my existing Duet2 wiring), I've come up with some questions and suggestions for updates to the wiki pages...
For reference, I'm looking at the duet2 wiring here: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_Wiring_Diagrams
and the duet3 wiring here: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_Mainboard_6HC_Wiring_DiagramOn the duet 2, the stepper motor headers are labeled, in order, as 1B (black), 1A (green), 2A (blue), and 2B (red.) The duet 3 diagram keeps the same color order, but with different labels: A2 (black), 1A (green), B2 (blue) and B1 (red.) Does this mean that I will have to change the order of the pins (as well as re-crimp them for the different connectors)?
The duet3 doc for OUT_4 thru OUT_6 state "..a 2-pin fan may be connected between the V_OULCn pin (+ve) and the OUT_n_NEG pin (-ve)." However, the diagram on the same page uses different labels: "GND", "V_OUTLC0", "out0.tach", and "out0."
IO_0 thru IO_8: Being that these replace the zprobe and paneldue connectors, it might be useful to have direct wiring changes on this page (instead of or in addition to it being scattered on the "expansion hardware overview" and "Getting started with duet 3" pages.)

yes

don't think so, can test tomorrow if noone has a definitive answer.

I didn’t have to change the order of the pins. I did however have to crimp for new connectors.

All Duets require one phase of the stepper motor to be connected to the two pins at one end of the connector, and the other phase to be connected to the two pins at the other end. Beyond that it doesn't matter, except that the exact wiring order you use may cause the motor to move the opposite direction to the one you intend, which you can fix using M569.

@dc42
I was confused about that as well. In the wiring diagram it says left to right:
2B, 2A, 1A, 1B so I guess the numbers refer to the phases, not the letters?as in Phase1, Phase1, Phase 2, Phase 2 ?
Thanks.

Unfortunately the pin names used by Trinamic don't match the wire names used by moth stepper motors. So in the Duet 2 diagram that shows 2B, 2A, 1A, 1B, the phases are 1 and 2. On Duet 3 we switched to calling the phases A and B, as the motor manufacturers do.

Just finished wiring this new Duet3 up. I missed one thing that nearly had me convinced that my board was bad:
The separate OUT0 Power in allows for a different voltage to be supplied for the OUT0 high current output (e.g for a large bed heater) If this is not required VIN power must be applied to both the POWER IN and the OUT0 POWER IN terminals for OUT 0 to be powered.
Otherwise, it was pretty straight forward. I had to move some pins around for wiring the endstops (duet3 uses 2/3, duet2 uses 1/3) and the paneldue (see: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Getting_Started_With_Duet_3#Section_Running_in_standalone_mode) and of course change the connectors for the steppers.
A quick comment about the "new" connector types: I think I actually like them better than the old ones. I just wish they were more common (easier to find on amazon.) I'm able to find the bigger pins, but no housing. I'm sure I'll need more housings eventually.
Currently, I have the ethernet of the duet plugged into a Raspberry Pi4 that's providing a wifi bridge. Once RRF3 passes more gcode commands through to DSF (so that the PanelDue is fully usable), I'll remove the sdcard from the duet3 and use the ribbon cable to attach it to the Pi4. Speaking of the ribbon cable - is it a straight though cable? pin 1 to pin 1?
Thank you, @dc42, @chrishamm and everyone else involved in the new Duet3 development and testing.

@garyd9 For info, I bought a heap of those big JST connectors (housings as well as pins) off of eBay. They seem to be common enough in my part of the world (UK).

Your profile shows you are in the USA, so https://www.amazon.com/s?k=vh3.96&ref=nb_sb_noss_1. Not the exact same make, but should be compatible.
