Magnetic Filament Monitor Location
-
I am using a nimble remote direct drive extruder. I did not want to located the filament monitor on the extruder but wanted to mount it to the frame, so there would be a 750mm long reverse bowden running from the sensor to the extruder. The manual says that the sensor needs to be located next to the extruder otherwise accuracy will decrease.
Would having the sensor 75cm away from the extruder cause the sensor not to tell if its out of filament, or would it just cause a delay in the cause of a clog? -
I really can't recommend that arrangement. You would need to use a very long sample length (much larger than the default 3mm) in order to avoid false positives.

Thanks DC, I did not fully understand how it works but now I do. I'll look for another avenue.

@dc42 Does it matter which side of the sensor is in or out for the filament? I cant seem to find anything on the wiki but perhaps I overlooked it.

No, it doesn't matter. The firmware works it out.

@dc42 Nice! I figured that was probably the case but thought I would ask just in case.
