      Hello David and Tony,
      I would like to buy the Duet 2 Ethernet. I have the following motors to choose from:

      Trinamic NEMA23 QSH5718-56-28-126, RatedPhase Current 2,8A and Holding Torque 126Ncm, Phase Resistance 0,9 Ω, Phase Inductance 2,5 mH : Link Datasheet

      SANYO DENKI NEMA23 103H7126-5840; RatedPhase Current 3A and Holding Torque 160Ncm, Phase Resistance 0,99 Ω, Phase Inductance 4 mH: Link Datasheet page 54

      ACT MOTOR NEMA23 23HS6620; RatedPhase Current 2A and Holding Torque 126Ncm, Phase Resistance1,8 Ω, Phase Inductance 2,5 mH: on ebay

      I need around 1,2 Nm of torque for my large 3d printer. Could I use Duet 2 for this? Do i have to cool the drives with a fan?

        The first two motors would be at the limit of what the Duet 2 drivers can handle.

        The recommendation is to use 85% of the max rated current for the motor. So for the 2.8A motor 85% is ~2.3 which would be at the max current for the Duet 2 at 2.4A.

        The 3A motors would be even beyond that and may limit your torque a bit.

        The 2A motors would be within more comfortable range of the Duet 2.

        You would definitely need to actively cool the board.

        Perhaps the Duet 3 with it's more powerful drivers would be more suitable for your needs?

          I'm not sure what other options you have, but I would certainly pick a NEMA23 with a rated current close to 2.8A, with the lowest phase inductance you can find. Of the two listed, the Trinamic looks best. Keep in mind the Duet NEEDS four wire leads - I don't think a six wire lead motor (the ACT MOTOR has six wires) will work.

          Again - not sure if you're limited to only those three, but I would also take a look at Oriental Motor and Applied Motion. On my Duet 2 Wifi I use two Oriental Motor PKP264D28AA2 NEMA23s, rated at 74Ncm (which is lower than your 120N*cm requirement), 2.8A/phase, .57ohm/phase, and 1.5mH/phase. I have the two steppers running at 2.4A, with the Duet mounted vertically, with fans actively cooling the underside of the board. These steppers stay surprising cool, even at 2.4A (in comparison, I have Oriental Motor NEMA17s for my X and U axis, and they get quite hot, even when at less than 85% their rated current).

          PKP266D28AA2 or a equivalent part number with 8mm shaft (1.4Nm, 2.8A, .86ohm, 2.9mH) could work for you, or Applied Motion HT23-597 (2.83A parallel, .9ohms parallel, 2.7mH parallel,). The Applied Motion model is a bit more complicated because it has 8 wire leads, however can be wired two different ways to the Duet, either bipolar parallel or bipolar series.
