What is the current of a Duet Wifi? 2.4A or 4A?
-
So I am confused, the TMC 2660 Datasheet states a max current of 4A. The listing of the Duet Wifi on Filastruder states only 2.4A.
Reasoning?
Is it heat dissipation? Will active cooling over the board be able to sustain higher current?
So if this is more of an obvious question.
Thanks

TMC2660 pulled moments ago from Trinamic's site:
Where are you seeing 4A?
-
At the beginning of the sheet it states 4A stepper motor current. This is total not per coil?
Or am I just stupid and missing something? Lol

Ah, got it, good 'ol "marketing via datasheet". Everybody is saying the same thing:

you'll need active cooling even at 2.4A, see the wiki for details. Firmware won't allow you to set a higher current unless you build it yourself and ignore the warranty.

Datasheet, near the big table:
The maximum ratings may not be exceeded under any circumstances. Operating the circuit at or near more than one maximum rating at a time for extended periods shall be avoided by application design.
Datasheet, page 49:
The MOSFET and bond wire temperature should not exceed 150°C, despite temperatures up to 200°C will not immediately destroy the devices. But the package plastics will apply strain onto the bond wires, so that cyclic, repetitive exposure to temperatures above 150°C may damage the electrical contacts and increase contact resistance and eventually lead to contract break.
Check MOSFET temperature under worst case conditions not to exceed 150°C using a thermal camera to validate your layout. Please carefully check your layout against the sample layout or the layout of the TMC2660-Evaluation board on the TRINAMIC website in order to ensure proper cooling of the IC!
They never use the words "active" or "passive" or similar. They do say that you must validate cooling in your design.

they as in trinamic, no, but they as in duet3d yes

Always use a cooling fan if you run a Duet 2 Wifi or Duet 2 Ethernet above 2.0A motor current.
