12V on the 5V rail
-
@bearer Thank you! I will see what I come up with to desolder it
Is there any special version of the ESP-12S Wifi Module I need? -

ESP-12S
Thats about as specific as you can get, but no, any ESP-12 ought work, the 12S has all the right certifications on it which is important for Duet3d selling them, not so much for you. I.e. you could use a 12E or F if easier to obtain (or pretty much any other ESP with the same footprint)
(the ESP-07S is an official option if you want external antenna, just make sure to never run it without antenna attached to avoid damage to the rf tx)
-
@bearer Thanks!
I just ordered a ESP-07S as I have a bunch of these antennas laying around, hoping for a bit better range on the WiFi then -
Manage to desolder it using a regular soldering iron, now I just need the new chip!
-
@bearer Woho! It's working again! Thanks for all the help!
-
Well done! I'm sure the planet prefers a bit of repairing to just landfills:)

@bearer
Unfortunalty is seems like the Duex2 took a hit as well, as I can't get the steppers working there.
Nothing get's hot on the board.
Any idea what could have broke on the Duex2? -
Does M115 report that there is a DueX connected? If not then the SX1509B chip has probably failed.
-
M115 FIRMWARE_NAME: RepRapFirmware for Duet 2 WiFi/Ethernet FIRMWARE_VERSION: 2.05.1 ELECTRONICS: Duet WiFi 1.02 or later FIRMWARE_DATE: 2020-02-09b1
So, is that SX1509B hard to change?
And where can I find it on the DUEX2? -

without hotair or low melt solder it'll be tricky - but if you got the wifi module off I guess you might pull it off - however its probably easier to pull toff he relatively small pads of the qnf compared to the wifi.
Small square chip, U8 -
I have replaced the SX1509B on several DueX boards. A hot air rework station is required. I found that after removing the chip, it helps to use solder wick to remove excess solder from the central pad. Otherwise it may tend to float on that solder, making it harder to get good connections on the surrounding pads.
-
@bearer Ouch that looks like a tricky one...

yeah, i'm still surprised you got the wifi module off with an iron and just some mild discolouration of the board!
-
@bearer Yeah me to haha, and the WiFi range improved enormously!
BTW, I can't seem to find the SX1509B chip anywhere, I've tried searching for GBA3 1707 12073 (as it says on the component) -
Both Digikey and Mouser sell the SX1509B.
-
@dc42 Is it the SX1509BIULTRT or SX1509BEVK?
-
It's the SX1509BIULTRT. The BEVK is the evaluation kit for the chip.
-
@dc42 Finaly got the chance to remove the SX1509B using a hot air station, and today I got my deliver of 2 new chips from Mouser. Do I need an hot air station to solder the chip back on again or could it be done using a regular soldering iron?

The pads are under the chip, so it needs a hot air station.

@dc42 Ok! Thank you
