Thats "interesting"! Does it also happen if you boot it without an SD card inserted after having written the firmware to the board?

Yes it happens in all cases

Do you know of another way to connect a raspberry to the maestro other than the USB?
I tried to connect a raspberry by usb but it's the same thing: Diag flashes and cannot connect to the Pi

The only way to "talk" to the Duet is either over the network and the web interface, or via USB terminal.

@patoune08 check that the firmware erase pins (between the processor and USB port) aren't shorted or have a jumper on them. It sounds like every time you reapply power the firmware is getting erased, which is consistent with the erase pins being jumpered. Otherwise, can you post a good, hi res image of your board?

I can communicate with the duet only when it is powered by 5v. As soon as I put the 24v, no more communication and Diag flashes ????

could the debris on the board be conductive?

also looks like two of your fan outputs are damaged, related?

Here is a video to show what happens when I turn on the power.

tl;dw - one frame with Vin, 5v and 3.3v LEDs, then DIAG comes on and says on for about 35 seconds before it starts strobing about 3-4 times a second for a few seconds at the end. (no erase jumper in sight)

how long after power was applied does the video start?
is there anything else happening during the video that isn't shown?

if anything it'd be more interesting to see the transition from the board working when on USB to it not working when Vin is applied.

                        Summary of latest video:

Starts off with board powere off, USB cable connected and 5v, 3.3v and DIAG led turn on. Device Manager shows Duet 2 Maestro (COM6) and Pronterface connects.

Vin applied, Vin led comes on, nothing changes for about 35 seconds until DIAg starts strobing as before, USB still connected and Device Manager shows the Duet 2 Maestro (COM6) is gone. It was not replaced by a BOSSA device, just plain gone.

The board is conneted via Ethernet, can you access DuetWebControl when its powered by USB? And does it make any difference removing the z-probe and commenting out the configuration for it?

My best guess is that something is going wrong with the +5V and/or +3.3V supply rails when you apply VIN power.

                          • Does it do the same thing if you disconnect everything except VIN and USB from the Duet?
                          • Does the A4403 chip (small square chip close to the VIN terminals) look OK?

I looked with a magnifying glass and everything seems normal
