Questions about G31 and Z-height tuning

Is G31 X0 Y0 Z-0.2 P500 0.15 closer or farther from the bed compared to G31 X0 Y0 Z-0.05 P500?
Is adjusting that value a proper way of slightly adjusting preferred "first layer squish"?

closer under my understanding of it, I have always been told - figures on duet is closer to the bed and + figures are further away from the bed, with the newer firmware from dc you can use babystepping to move the hotend during printing so as long as its near as dam it too squishing you can always use the babystepping to compensate that slight bit.

The Z value that you put in "tells" the machine what distance the bed is away from the nozzle when the probe triggers. So in your first example you are "telling" the machine that once the probe triggers, it needs to move -0.2mm to get to the point where the nozzle is just touching the bed and in your second example, you are "telling" the machine that it needs to move -0.05mm after the probe triggers to get to the point where the nozzle just touches the bed,
By having a negative offset as you do, it means that the nozzle touches the bed before the probe triggers. Is that what you want?

A higher or less negative Z parameter (trigger height) in the G31 command will move the nozzle closer to the bed. So Z-0.05 will squish the first layer more than -0.2.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go back to Z0 and then see if I can get a good layer squish from there.
It is remarkable that I went from Z-0.05 to Z-0.2 and with a 125% extra layer width - almost couldn't tell the difference without looking closely. I'd like to get lower first layer calibration eventually, but 0.3 layout height is quite forgiving.
