      Hi Duet3d forumites,

This is my first post here, the title explains my project reasonably well.

I have recently acquired my own CubePro and based on my previous experience with the things my plan is to replace the 3DSystems electronics and extruders.

I have searched this forum and I am aware that it has been done with Duet3d by others so I'm looking for a bit of advice on Duet board selection starting out.

I am a modelmaker and would really like to end up with a printer that can reliably print ABS, and if possible be capable of printing nylon.

I have gutted the existing printer, all that is left is:
A nice closed chamber with a printing frame, X and Y on linear bearings and Z on a threaded rod.
      1 x Z-axis stepper.
2 x Y-axis stepper (they were wired in parallel).
      1 x X-axis stepper.
Chamber heater (240v) with solid state relay (had 12v input)
      24v PSU (16A - i think)

I don't have the CubePro print bed, I have spare heated ones from my Zortrax M200 and M300 which I could make use of if they are suitable.

I would appreciate any input regarding gear selection at this point to avoid ending up with unsuitable, incompatible or frustrating combinations of gear down the line.

      Thank you!

a mosquito hotend would be a good that fits the needs.

        more details needed.
what is the size. what wattage are those 2 beds.

a duet mini 5 should fit the bill of the printer.

I'll dig out the zortrax beds and see what information I can get from them, it would be unlike zortrax to print ratings on proprietary parts unless it were required by regs.

I have checked on the Duet mini and it looks out of stock at reputable outlets, I'd like to get going while I have spare time so would a full on 3 be trickier to set up or just considered overkill?

no a duet 3 will also work fine if you dont mind spending the extra money.

Duet3 would be overkill. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If you can't wait for a mini5 there's always the venerable Duet2wifi.

Just to bump this along and show some appreciation for the advice so far here is an update:

Couldn't wait so I purchased a duet 3 6HC, I figured the knowledge gain in the short term would be worth it..... and a panel due... I like screens

Connected it all up following guides on here and it fired up great, all working in standalone config.

Connected up to 24v, all good, got a set of engineer crimps and rewired steppers and end stop switches, all good! (dual y-axis steppers are now in series)

Up to this point all very easy, I'm not rushing and set small daily targets.

The next step, BLTouch, very easy to wire in but had to mess with the home z and home all files, it didn't work right out of the configurator, but got it operating fine as the z-stop in the end.

Next, because I didn't pick up my build platform yet (it's a 5-hour round trip away) I thought i would try to record a z compensation on my acme plywood build surface. This is where I hit some problems. It would getan error about not triggering, so I looked at the BLTouch tip during the process and sure enough, the z-axis would stop before the BLTouch triggered. I tried a few different settings for Z offset but still have not got that going right. I did get a sequence to complete by putting a 4mm sheet of plywood between my temporary bed after the z homing had run, then the compensation sequence runs no problem...

Finally, I have ordered a new hotend and extruder, maybe after I have fixed the nozzle position I can get the BLTouch set with an accurate z-offset.

If anyone has any advice on config for the BLTouch for why I might get this type of problem, it would be great to get pointed in the right direction, this is my first attempt doing anything like this and there is a lot of information to get through so I might have missed something.

I would suggest starting a new thread for your BLTouch setup. Sounds like something isn't quite right. Post your config files, etc.
