5V 1LC Toolboard
-
I need 5V for a nozzle LED. Would it be possible to connect it to IO2 on my 1LC v1.1 toolboard?
Thanks, Martin

@martinnyhc yes you can do that. Do not draw much current from +5V because it will increase power dissipation in the 5V linear regulator. A single 20mA LED would be OK. If there are several LEDs, then it would be better to connect them in series and power them from the 12V supply (with a suitable series resistor).

Thanks. I have two 50mA LEDs.

Definitely connect them in series and power them from 12V then. If they drop 3V each then you can use a 120 ohm 0.5W or greater series resistor.
You could connect that arrangement in parallel with the hot end fan as we do on the Smart Effector, so that the LEDs are on whenever the hot end fan is running.

OK, thanks.

But connecting the LED's to the Duet3 6HC 5V PWM (VFD, Laser, Servo Drive) should work, right?

Yes, the MB6HC can supply a lot more 5V current than the tool board can.
