      Hi

      I just wired up the Duet 3 mini as per the ended 3 pro guide (printer is actually CR-10 S5). Once everything was all crimped and wired up I used the reprap config tool and uploaded the new config to the SD card.

      Once the config was updated I plugged the duet into my laptops USB port and connected using simplify 3D. This all worked fine and I setup the Wi-fi and got connected to the network. Everything was going really well until that point.

      Somehow when trying to access the http// for the Duet the board seems to have broken.

      Now when powered by USB it just has the 5v and 3.3v LEDs lit and if powered by a 12v PSU the Vfused and 12v leds also light up. Status LED does nothing unless I press reset then it comes on for 0.5 second. If I double click reset then status LED slowly fades between bright and dim. Neither the Wi-fi LED or the ACT do anything.

      I can no longer connect with the board via simplify 3D as no port shows up. If I double click reset and get the fading status LED then I do get COM6 show up as a port in simplify 3D but still can not connect.

      I have disconnected all the end stops, motors and sensors so it cannot be anything external shorting the board and it originally powered up fine when they were contacted.

      Have also tried reverting everything on the SD card back to original but had no luck.

      The board is brand new and was purchased last week from E3D

      Is the board broken?

      I have setup the duet 2 before and never had any issues. Really need to get it working as it is a work printer and we have some big jobs coming in.

        @mikenativ, the LED fading between bright and dim is telling you that the bootloader is active. In this state you can try re-flashing the firmware. See https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duet_3_Mini_5plus_Firmware#Section_Updating_firmware_via_USB. You can get the .uf2 file from https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/tag/3.3.

          @dc42 Hi

          Thank you for your response.

          I plugged the board back in via USB this morning and it fired up perfectly and I could communicate with it via simplify 3D.

          Unfortunately after about two minutes exactly the same thing happened and all the LED’s went out except for 5v and 3.3v. I tried unplugging the board giving it a few minutes and then rebooting and it was still unresponsive. Next I tried pushing the reset button and it fired up again for a minute before dying.

          Also just tried your suggestion of double clicking the reset button and updated the firmware. The red status LED flashed really quickly for a couple of seconds as it wrote the firmware and then went out. The board remained unresponsive after this.

          Not sure what could be wrong, there is literally nothing but a USB cable connected to the board. It is the one supplied with the Duet. I also tried powering up via 12v PSU and it lit the 4 power LED’s but nothing else happened.

          Have you any idea what could be wrong? Ideally I need to have the printer up and running quickly as I am on the clock and this is a work printer.

            Can you try using YAT instead of simplify3d as your USB terminal software?

            Do you have a different USB cable/port/computer to test with?

            When using VIN, are you able to connect to the wifi network and access DWC?

              @phaedrux It’s not the USB cable, computer or Simplify 3D that is the problem.

              When the board is running properly I can connect to it no problem. Trouble is that after a minute or two the board becomes totally unresponsive, literally all the LED’s (other than 5v and 3.3v) go out and it just becomes a potato. Have also used the same computer and software to communicate with other printers without issues.

              I was trying to connect to the board via Wi-fi today but it only worked for a minute before dying. The Wi-fi LED was sold green then went out and the status LED stopped flashing. It wouldn’t power up properly after that 😞

              If I double click reset it appears as a external drive on the laptop and I can upload firmware but it still doesn’t fire back up again afterwards.

              I got a few minutes out of it yesterday then nothing for the rest of the day. This morning it was fine for a few minutes then same story, nothing for the rest of the day.

              My guess is one of the components is damaged and screws up shortly after powering up. It’s really annoying as I convinced my boss to buy it to upgrade one of our printers, now he has probably paid me nearly as much as the board cost trying to get the thing working 🤦‍♂️

              Surely the firmware would either work or not work?

              Seems weird that it would work for a couple of minutes then die, especially when nothing other than a USB cable is plugged in and the board it isn’t doing anything.

                Yes, which is why I suggested trying a different usb cable and port and terminal software.

                Powered by VIN or USB?

                I seem to be just asking the same questions I did last time.

                  @phaedrux

                  Tried powering it by both USB and 12v PSU, as I said it worked for a few minutes yesterday then stopped, worked for a few minutes this morning then stopped.

                  When the board is powered on and running properly the LED’s indicate so.

                  The red status flashes and the Wi-fi goes green. If these stop working whilst the board is powered via 12v PSU it is clearly nothing to do with my laptop or cable as neither is connected, like I said the board goes into potato mode and just shows that it has power.

                      @phaedrux Just to let you know I have fixed the Duet.

                      We have a compressor at work and I decided to try blasting the board with an air gun. I had a feeling there was something causing a short, I had checked the whole board thoroughly and couldn’t see so much as a speck of dust, however I thought the air gun was worth a shot and to my surprise it worked perfectly 😎

                      Thanks for your help and suggestions with regards to getting everything sorted.
