"Berd Air" style cooling for the Smart effector
-
Before we had a seperate forum a lot of information was in the overall smart effector thread about mounting berd air style ring cooling nozzles on the smart effector. e.g.:
https://www.duet3d.com/forum/thread.php?pid=20676#p20676
If anyone has a design for this can you share in this thread please, I am working on one myself.
ISo far I have found Lykke's:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2453322and there are a few picture of other designs.
I am trying to work a way to avoid obscuring the LEDs and keep the inner mounting bolts free.

I have a very quick and dirty design I did that is on the Beta effector (Tho no tube in it at the mo and it is in no way ready for general publication.) I will email it to you in STL form and the raw Freecad file as will if that is any use to you.
It may be worth making the hole for the tube itself parametric as there are several sizes of tube available the original Berdair ones are 3/32 inch common from model shops is 1/16 3/32 and 1/8.

I'm working on a similar cooling setup now. Informal poll: How important is 360 cooling to you as opposed to say 270 degree? The age old dilemma of making these things is dealing with the long heat element side of the e3d block. I could go full 360 by making it big enough to go around the whole thing, or 270 or so capped on the ends for a much smaller assembly. Thoughts? I'll be releasing versions for 40mm blower fans and 50mm blower fans, possibly both 360 and 270, and raw cad files for modification once I get them printed and working.

Something like this. It's a pain getting the clearances right with the wires and heatsink fan etc.

Hi, given installations i have seen on other printers that should work, and 360 degree cooling is not essential (check out this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vedP3jhMpy4))The issue you will have is your build area is now reduced by the overhang of that large blower.

That's the 50 and the angle of the photo makes it look worse, the 40mm version is practically flush with the effector, just tricky to position all these things with all the other nonsense going on down there

Im thinking of getting the smart effector and the cooling part is one of my issues that im trying to figure out before i buy.
I quite like the 360/donut cooling approach and use that on my existing effector for a long time. Im a bit surprised about the 3d maker noobs video but i imagine if he had rotated his bridging test into the blindspot of the semicircle the result would not have been so good.
However the space that the fan is taking up is too much indeed. So without going full berd air I was thinking about printing a little channel that extends the entry for the blower fan ca 5cm higher so the fan can sit above the effector pcb and might be angled out of the way.

I personally tried 360, 270, opposite fan an single fan on a same print model, the only change I've noticed is when the cooling area and CFM are higher, Whatever if it's 360 or just a single fan.
I think the idea of a ring with model tubing is very interesting due to the small space it takes.
