      My New Duet 3 6HC is not recognized by my laptop. I have tried different USB cables and laptops. With the same result, no COM-port response and no confirmation sound when a USB is plugged into the laptop.

      Do any of the LEDs on the board light up when you connect it to USB?

      It can be very picky about USB cables and ports.

          Can you try working through this guide?

            @phaedrux

            Step: "If no port appears, or you get a Windows error message several seconds after you connect the Duet via USB, try connecting it to a different USB port, and try using a different USB cable, making sure that the USB cable is a data cable (some USB cables provide power only)."
            No restult.

            Step: "If the port still doesn't appear on the PC
            If neither port is shown, then the Duet may be faulty or it may not have valid firmware installed. With USB power applied, erase the firmware. Only erase the firmware if your board is completely unresponsive, or if instructed to do so by Duet3D."

            If I'm seeing correctly, I'll have to clear the Firmware then. Spooky! what happens to the warranty?

              I don't understand the question. Reflashing the firmware and warranty are not related. If we can't get it up and running your warranty would then take over. Fear not.

              To try clearing the firmware and getting it to show up as a firmware flashing port in windows follow this: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Getting_Started_With_Duet_3#Section_To_update_via_USB_using_a_Windows_host

                It's good to hear that firmware and warranty are not related. Then I can go through the steps with a calmer feeling. I'm going to give it a try in a minute. Gather some courage first 🙂

                Thank you for your help.

                  There's little to worry about. It's basically impossible to brick a Duet with a firmware update. Even a failed one.

                  The trick will be getting it to show up in windows as a USB device.

                  Do you happen to have a powered USB hub?

                    My laptop has ss usb ports.

                    Just completed the firmware flash successfully thanks to your help. The Duet is now also visible in device manager.

                    It is correct that the "Status" LED is blinking right?

                    Thank you very very much for your help!

                      @coen_l I'm glad you got it working. It's normal for Duet 3 boards to blink that red LED at 1Hz. The reason they do is so that when you connect expansion boards via CAN bus, you can see when they are communicating because the red LEDs all blink in sync.

                        @dc42 Thanks for the info.

                        Just signed up with DWC, very nice interface. Now I can continue with the next step, installing the electronics and connecting.

                        It's amazing how quickly help is provided. I really appreciate it.
