Good morning, in order to make sure to have enough torque for my CoreXY with the Bondtech BMG-X2 with a E3D Chimera + (about 750gr overall) I've ordered two new steppers to "drive" it. My old steppers was 0,9° 1,4A with a holding torque of 40N/cm. Now I've ordered two 1,8°, 59N/cm of holding torque, 2A of nominal current, 1,4 Ohm phase resitance, 3,0Mh of phase inductance

My actual configuration for the motor in config.g is:

      M350 X16 Y16 Z16 I1 ; configure microstepping with interpolation
      M92 X159.6 Y159.6 Z1188.11 E415:415 ; set steps per mm
M906 X800 Y800 Z900 E800:800 I30 ; set motor currents (mA) and motor idle factor in per cent

Of course I have to set about a half for the steps/mm but I would like to know if to keep 16 for microstepping or set 32. Of course I'd loose torque with 32....I thought I could give 1000mA or more to the motor, it will depend on the heat they will produce and the heat the TMC will produce (the board has a 120mm fan above and the stepper will have a heatsink mounted in the bottom part)

      Board Duet2WiFi powered at 24VDC

      How about it?
      Thanks

I run similar motors at 1500mA with a 6HC and 1600mA on a Duet Wifi. The wifi has a very heavy gantry from a 3D systems cube pro and used to run a chimera/dual BMG setup with out issues. (It now just runs a single super volcano)
I would leave it at 16 with interpolation on.

There is a little bit oh heat in the motor but nothing out of specifications.

Thanks., but I didn't understood if you are using the 0,9° or the 1,8° steppers...are you using the X2 or 2 BMGs in bowden setup? Isn't too much to "pump" the current to 1600mA? Even with that current you don't notice particular heating?

          Thanks!

Sorry I should have been more specific. I am(/was) running 1.8 degree steppers with a 2A rating. While they get warm, its not much more than the enclosure that the system is in (50c or so).
I am also very confident that I could lower the current if needed I ever noticed problems. As you said above you are actively cooling the board so there should be no issues on that end.

I do not have an X2. My system was a homebrewed system using 2 BMGs and the chimera, built 4 years ago before the X2 was on the market. I guess it was a bowden system but the tubes were only 30mm long or so.

Interesting....could you please post a photo fo your BMGs setup, please? I'm curious....what maximum print speed are you able to reach with this configuration?

I am trying to find a picture. I don't have this exact setup running. It went through several iterations. I might have a cad file around though.

Honestly max speeds were not that good. My old standard print profile says I was printing at 1500mm/min for perimeters and 3000mm/min for infill.

whaaaat??? 1500mm/min means 25mm/sec are you sure???

Correct. The mass of the xy axis was quite a bit and I struggled with ringing so it was set pretty low.

That being said that was may "standard" profile so looking for nice surface finish. My draft speeds were 2500mm/min.

This in the only "picture" I could find right now. On the left of this image is the Cubepro x axis with a super volcano hot end, direct drive. On the right was the basic setup for when it was a chimera (sort of direct drive). It is obviously missing the mounting assembly to the bearing blocks. For the life of me I can't find that cad file... The PFTE that ran from the extruders to the chimera were pretty constrained/not ideal but it did work.
