Head crash -> (Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected ...)
-
My corexy printer yesterday had a catastrophic failure, because of a loose motor connection while homing or maybe auto bed leveling.
It looks like the board has recognized the problem:
Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 4
(I'm not 100% sure if the warning occurred before or during the head crash.)
Now the question arises, why is this message only a warning and not an error. In my case it would have saved my printer if this warning had led to an emergency stop of the printer.
Or is that somehow configurable?Btw: I know I can install safety endstops on my three Z axis to prevent head crashes like this.

@mscho I asked something similar a while back (after a similar situation). The issue is that the phase disconnected is not always very accurate and can give false positives with some motors, so Trinamic recommend it is only used as a warning (I believe).

I understand, but it would be nice to have this configurable so that I can change this behavior if it is reliable on my machine.

@mscho Did you really have a loose connector ?
I had the same yesterday after the printer had not been used for a while and just idled for a couple of days.

It was like it had twice the microsteps so it just went half the distance and missed the nozzle probe and crashed into the bed. Luckily, I have reduced current when going for the endstops/probeing so no harm.
I though I had messed up some configuration playing around and just restarted the thing and it's working fine there after.

Yes, definitely.
I've installed a new fan below the duet3d board last week and therefor disconnected and reconnected all cables.
Today I found out, that on one of the plugs the inner crimped part of one cable had slipped out from the outer plastic part and the cable was only sitting lose on the contact pin.
