      I have always wondered:

Are we supposed to to the heater PID tuning < 1mm above a hot or cold bed?

My ambient temp is around 15-19 degrees in my print room so the fan sucking air from a cold (16C) vs a hot (60C) bed is quite different, but especially when printing taller, thin objects it's sucking cold air from 10cm above bed vs wider objects ot could be sucking hotter air from either the part surface or the bed on lower layers.

Can somebody advice in one direction vs. the other? It isn't clear from the docs.

I try to replicate the conditions that will be present during a print when I tune.

So typically I will start by tuning the bed, and when it's finished and still warm, I will tune the hotend with it 10-20mm above the bed.

It's worked fine so far. However it probably isn't critical to getting good results.
