The printer (a Delta with a Duet Ethernet) started to stop and start erratically, then froze completely and when that happened I got an audible alarm sound ( electronic high low, high low) I didn't think the board had the ability to make sound, if it doesn't then what could have made that sound and what happened?

My guess is that the noise you are hearing is coming from your power supply.

I still don't know what was making the noise, but I did find the issue. a terminal had pulled out of the socket for the thermistor on the white plug on the Smart Effector. I bent the tab out a little more and re-seated it, seems to have cured it. Just glad it wasn't a broken wire on the power side coming in, I don't think I have a way to get those out for replacement like the other side.
