Seeking Duet user who moved from Simplify3D to Cura
-
Hi,
I have been using Simplify3D with my Duet powered printers for quite a while.
Once I figured out good settings in S3D it has been working fine for me. I can slice a model and it prints without issues.
Now I think it is time to move to Cura 5.
I tried my best to take the PLA settings that worked in S3D and make the equivalent settings in Cura.
But I cannot get the first layer adhesion in Cura that I get with S3D.
What I get is wild nests of filament if I stop paying attention and cancel things at the first sign of problems
So I was hoping to find someone who knew the "secret" to getting Cura to work.
Thanks very much.

I've been using cura for quite a while now.
My key things:
Low speed ~30mm/s
Large initial layer ~.2mm
Optimise wall printing order is useful on parts that have many small holes on the bed.
Small hole speed is also useful for getting the small hole walls to stick.
Extrusion multiplier 110% Can be helpful too.
I've found those things make far more difference than different nozzle or bed temps. That all being said, if you're getting good results from Simplify you ought to be able to replicate in Cura. I assume you're using the same speed, layer height etc?

@fcwilt are you sure you habe filament diameter 1,75 Set in the settings? Default for cura is 2.85

- Cura (just an abortion i couldn't get prints to stick to the bed, layer adhesion was terrible and what it did print was really inconsistent in quality
And that is just what I am seeing, so far.
I will take a look at IdeaMaker.
Thanks.

I will double check that.
Thanks.

@arnold_r_clark
I installed and tried ideaMaker.
I went through it looking for the settings that I made in S3D and think I found them all.
In any case the first test print came out just fine, the same print Cura failed at repeatedly due to terrible first layer adhesion.
It's curious that Cura is so bad in the regard.
Thanks for the suggestion.
