Duet2 WiFi V1.04 board running 2.03.3 firmware
-
Continued from reprap forum: Thanks for the reply David, but at this time I am more interested in getting the board running with the firmware that is on the board at the moment because it seems to me that if the board is faulty it would be a waste of time to go through the trouble of updating the firmware. In this regard I believe that the board is faulty because I have managed, with your help, to get to the situation where cutecom shows that my router is on the remembered list of the firmware but does not give an IP address nor is the board "seen" by the router so I am stuck now. The board connects to cutecom and pronterface no problem butwill not go further with connecting WiFi. The led for the WiFi module flashes when the board is switched on but nothing.l

@lexia you're definitely best off updating due to improvements in the wifi firmware.
any board i get to fix always gets updated first and foremost -
Does your router provide a 2.4ghz network? It sounds like it doesn't. The SSID is added, but the Duet has no network to connect to.
-
@Phaedrux Yes the router has 2 x 2.4mhz channels and 2 x 5mhz channels. I only use the main channel at the moment and have connections to both 2.4M and 5M. Running M587 returns that my SSID is remembered but where I expected to see the IP address there is only a series of zeros.

That's normal if you didn't specify an IP address when you configured the SSID using M587. It means that the WiFi module will use DHCP to get an IP address.
-
@dc42 I used M587 S"mySSID" P" my password" following , as I understand them, the instructions in the howtos, this is why I think that there is a physical problem with the board.
-
@lexia when you send M552 S1 to the Duet to initiate the wifi connection, does the blue LED on the wifi module flash?
-
@dc42 No it does not. It flashes a couple of times when I first connect it , but then nothing.

Yes the router has 2 x 2.4mhz channels and 2 x 5mhz channels
Does that mean there is a dedicated SSID for 2.4ghz and that's what the Duet is connected to?
Can you also send
M588 S"*"
to clear all saved SSIDs and then use M587 to add the 2.4ghz network again? -
@Phaedrux Yes there is a dedicated SSID and the router channels 2.4ghz or 5ghz automatically. The router is split into 2 units, the first unit SSID being the one I am using and the second one having a different SSID.
I ran M588 S"*" etc. as requested and received the following reply
M588: Failed to reset the WiFi module to factory settings
error retrieving wifi status message bad reply format version
M587: Failed to add SSID to remembered list.
I've used these commands previously but not got these replys -
Can you try sending these commands
M552 S-1
M552 S0
M552 S1
M997 S1
M588 S"*"And report the response from each.
-
@Phaedrux M552 S-1: WiFi module stopped
M552 S0: WiFi module started
M552 S1: WiFi module is idle
M997 S1: connecting at 230400 baud success etc. -
@lexia Sorry pressed the wrong button!!
M588 S"*" : Failed to reset WiFi module to factory settings -
@lexia One thing I have just noticed- The firmware.bin file has not changed to FIRMWARE.CUR ( I am assuming that it should change)
-
@lexia this board doesn't act like a BTT board etc so doesn't automatically flash a file called firmware.bin (there's no bootloader). Best to bossa the board to update
-
@jay_s_uk Thanks Jay, does this file stay as RepRapFirmware.bin or should it be firmware.bin? I have tried so many things to get this WiFi working that I have lost track of what I started with.
-
@lexia with bossa, the name doesn't matter.
Just follow fallback procedure

-
@Phaedrux Yes I did and it returned success: SSID added, but thats as far as it goes, it will not advance further, the led stays off and the control panel for the router shows no connection. There are no indicators of any problem with either the board or the router so tomorrow I will contact Vodafone (ISP providers) and insist that they change the router because the paper printer cannot connect (WPS) but works perfectly with USB connection

One way to test the wifi module is to use Access Point mode.
