I'm not sure if I want to do this (it was set by default on my previous machine - a Shapeoko 3), but is this an acceptable way to home my machine when it starts up, please?

Adding a line like this at the end of the config.g file:

      ; Home machine on startup
      M98 P"homeall.g"

The reason I'm not sure if this is a good idea is I occasionally start up the machine remotely, when I'm reviewing config files, for example, so it would probably be better if there was a prompt with an option to home, or not, with maybe a timeout not to home, if I ignore the prompt.

This delay would also help where the machine is turned on but the browser takes a few seconds to connect to the machine, which begs the question: Does turning on the machine run the config.g file, or connecting to the machine via the browser?

The more I think about it, the more pointless this sounds, especially as I could just run the
homeall.g file as and when I need to, but I'm curious what others CNC users think.

      Thanks

@Nightowl I would advise against homing on startup. I often leave things on the bed of my CNC that would get damaged or knocked off if I didn't move them

Edit: also, the motors are degenergised if not homed. If you home them and then don't use the machine for a while, it's consuming energy for no gain

Yeah, I kind of get that. I had a bit of an issue with the manufacturer of my previous machine on this subject, but they believed it was perfectly acceptable to do this. What made matters worse was their machine barrelled forward to the front edge after homing, to prompt for a tool. I thought that was more dangerous.

          I probably wonโ€™t do this ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿค”
