DUET Web Control States Duet is "OFF"
-
Hello,
As the title states, I hit start on a print to test extrusion and right after heard a pop, followed by a smoke smell. Duet Board is stated as 'off' on the web control; heres the weird part, there are no blown fuses, burnt solders, or even a sign of the duet being damaged. The QLEDs on the board are flashing as if everything is fine (blinking red, with other lights constantly on) but I cant get a response out of it through web control. I checked the Raspberri Pi as well and everything
My question is do I need a new duet board or is there a fix for this problem? If i do need a new board, is it covered under warranty? it was purchased recently.
Setup info:
DUET 3 Mainboard 6HC
Raspberri Pi 4 used as SBC to control
2 Z motors
2 Y motors
1 X motor
Printer is being built as a clay printer. -
@gryffin_reilly state "off" means that there is 5V power to the Duet but no 24V power. This typically occurs when the Duet is supplied with external 5V power, but either the 24V supply has been turned off (or has failed) or the VIN fuse has blown.
Can you tell where the smoke came from? If it came from the Duet, can you see any burned components?

@dc42 hello, thank you for the reply. I have checked both of the fuses and they are fine, along with the power supply. There are no burned components on the board either. I am not sure where to go from here. Is the board under warranty and covered for situations like this or should we purchase a new board? Thank you.

Can you go through this guide and tell us how far you get?

With everything disconnected can you connect the board by USB and try reaching it from USB terminal software like YAT?
-
@Phaedrux got to plugging in the board via USB. The port is shown on my PC but it is named "USB Serial Device (COM3)" and that is not one of the names listed on the forum you linked me to. What next? Thank you!
-
Did you try connecting via YAT?
If you still cannot connect, move on to the next section.

@Phaedrux Hello, I want to thank you for all the help so far. However, I cannot connect to YAT and the board seems unresponsive even though the QLEDs are on. Does this qualify for a warranty exception? My lab needs a clay printer running before august and nothing has worked on the forum you linked.

Did you attempt to flash the firmware as described in that link?
If neither port is shown, then the Duet may be faulty or it may not have valid firmware installed. With USB power applied, erase the firmware. Only erase the firmware if your board is completely unresponsive, or if instructed to do so by Duet3D. On older boards do this by holding down the Erase button for at least 1 second, then press the Reset button. On newer boards there is no Erase button; so fit a jumper across the Erase pins, then connect to USB for a few seconds, then disconnect from USB, remove the jumper and connect to USB again. You may have to do this a couple of times if the Duet does not appear in the Device Manager.
The Bossa Port should appear in Device Manager; if it does then you can upload firmware using SAM-BA or Bossa as described in section "Fall-back procedure #2" in Installing and Updating Firmware. When and where was the Duet purchased?

@Phaedrux Yes I did and it was still unresponsive.
I purchased it from Amazon back in december of 2022 -
Who is the seller on Amazon? There is only one authorized dealer on Amazon.
