Induction heating
-
Hi!
I would like to make some tests with an induction heater, like these:
Is it possible to power them directly from a Duet hotend output? Or can it fry the Duet?

Two potential issues:
-
There is an unknown amount of capacitance on across the power input terminals. If it is more than a few uF then prolonged use of PWM will cause additional heating in the mosfet
-
The specification says the maximum power is 120W @ 12V, which implies a current draw in excess of 10A. This is too much for the hot end heater terminal block on the Duet. But OK for the bed heater output.

Ok, so I should use an external FET, or a SSR…
Thanks!

I would also worry about heating anything near the coils, such as any any aluminum extrusions, mounting bolts, springs, PCB ground planes…. not to mention all that RF and conducted noise your likely to be spewing out.
