Duet Wifi becoming inaccessible
-
I recently installed a permanent external 5V PSU (Meanwell RS-25-5) and switched the jumper to external 5V. On plugin the system works as expected and DWC is accessible. I've noticed that after some time DWC becomes inaccessible and does not come back. I get a plain page not accessible. I've not found a cause or pattern yet.
At the moment I have my Fluke Scopemeter attached to the PSU doing periodical measurement over multiple days to check for voltage dips. How would I go about further getting to the root of this?

Is the WIfi module shutting off? look to see if the blue LED next to the Wifi module is lit or not.
What version of firmware are you running?
-
Have you tied grounds between the 5V and other power supply externally or are you relying on the board to join -V? I put a large core from the negative on the 5V supply to the other power supplies and only connected the posative from the 5V PSU to the board.

The WiFi module was not active, at least it's indicator led was off. It came back after I reset it via the PanelDue.
Below a copy from the software information section on DWC.
Firmware Electronics: Duet WiFi 1.0 or 1.01
Firmware Version: 2.01(RTOS) (2018-07-26b2)
WiFi Server Version: 1.21
Web Interface Version: 1.21.2-dc42@doctrucker said in Duet Wifi becoming inaccessible:

I have not connected grounds externally. From what was said in this thread I am under the impression it is not needed.

I would upgrade to the latest firmware and try it. My Wifi module used to shut off after some time passed but now with the latest firmware it doesn't shut off anymore.
I'm not sure which firmware revision made the difference though. It's worth a try.
I used to use a macro on my paneldue to restart the wifi module so it really wasn't a big deal at the time.

As far is I know I am running the latest stable firmware, unless you mean the 2.02RC3?
I'm actually thinking about ditching my PanelDue since it's an older model and can't be dimmed I have got my printer accessible from outside via a secure connection, but if the wifi module shuts off that's a real issue obviously.

Yes I mean running 2.02RC3. I'm running it without any issues on my large IDEX printer.
Also just update the firmware on your paneldue to gain the dimming feature.

I just updated to the latest version on my Duet. I will see if the issue persists.
I was already running 1.22.1(28b1) on my Due. dc42 confirmed that older models lack the dimming capabilities int this thread -
It seems just updating the Duet did not resolve the issue, the light went out last evening.

I've definitely had WiFi drops on prior release. Almost guaranteed, in fact, on long prints. 2.02RC2 (I believe) was the first to have "infinite retry" on WiFi, and seemed to cure all my problems.
If your problems seemed to start on external 5V, can you switch back for a while, to debug?

The external 5V indeed seemed to be the startpoint of the drops. I will enable the main PSU and switch to internal 5V for the weekend.

I've run a couple of tests:
- External 5V only
- 12V only, 5V running but not connected
- 12V only, 5V off
And so far the conclusion is, my wifi AP is acting up. For a moment I was thinking the 5V was causing some interference (maybe switching noise?) so I disconnected it. Nothing changed, so it must be related to my AP sadly.
