I had a filament at the printer that I manually removed - now the filament is selected at the tool and I am not able to "unload" this filament from the tool without executing the unload.g from that filament. Is there a way to "clean" the tool from that filament selection?

For now, I am sending M702 and then click on "Emergency stop" so when the printer finishes restarting it is "clean" of filament selection.

Is there any reason not to execute "unload" beside maybe saving 30seconds for the heatup and retraction? Automated unload with apropriate temperature also makes sure the extruder does not get any mechanical damage when pulling out cold filament...

@lb Yes. I do not want to execute it without filament in it or it will damage my extruder.

O.K. that was new to me. Why not? Could be handy sometimes it seems...

Delete the filament.csv file and reboot the board.

@bmonnin I would like to avoid rebooting the board as I already have a workaround that reboots it.
I send M702 to unload it and then reboot the board before it starts.

Could you use M291 to ask if you wish to continue executing unload.g?

Heat the extruder then manually insert filament into the extruder and operate the extrude buttons to extrude filament.
You can then use unload filament as normal.
