New Duet Maestro Ethernet Not Working
-
I've a new Duet Maestro and having serious issues with Ethernet. When it works, it will not begin flashing lights on the front panel for at least 15-30 seconds; however, it requires several reboots, etc. before it will usually flash at all. Today, after having configured my BL Touch last night, I cannot get it to light up at all no matter what I try. The cable is good as I can connect it to my PC and get instant connection. I've inserted the SD Card into my PC and it said some issue at first and repaired but everything looked normal. I do have the M552 S1 command at the beginning of the config.g file and I even tried putting M552 S0 before it but nothing. How quickly should I begin seeing flashing lights? What could cause this? Any suggestions?

Finally after 40 minutes of rebooting, jiggling cables, etc. the lights turned on. The solder points underneath the board appear normal and the wires inside the Ethernet port do as well. I don't understand why I'm having these issues. FWIW, when I issue a M552 command with YAT, it always says it's active but with no IP ... so it seems the board is active but for some reason just doesn't want to work.

It does sound like a problem with the Ethernet interface or the cable. Have you tried a different cable, or connecting the cable the other way round? Are you sure it isn't a crossover cable? I assume you are connecting the Duet to your router.

there was another user who had problems with his ethernet, it turned out that it was a grounding problem with the printer.

@dc42 Nope, it's not a crossover cable, good thought. I've not tried to swap ends or try another cable as the same cable is able to plug into my laptop or VOIP phone base and instantly produce lights. That said, perhaps the port on this board doesn't like the jack, etc. I did clean the inside of the port with rubbing alcohol still without success but will try another cable later.

@veti Interesting, I'll have to look for that thread to see what the specifics where. How quickly do the lights on your board start flashing so I have an idea when the issue is solved?

The reason I asked about it possibly being a crossover cable is that the Ethernet port on the Duet does not do auto-switching. The 15 to 30 second delay that you see might be due to your router being in a state expecting a direct connection, and giving the Duet some time to cross the wires over before it does so itself.
