24V PSU, 3V stepper motors
-
Hi, I have a 24V PSU and looking to purchase 3V stepper motors. Is this a good idea, or should I be looking at 24V motors (or 12V motors). I understand the controller chips are current controlled, thus the waters are a bit murky..... Thanks.

It is normal and desirable for the motor's rated voltage to be well below the power supply voltage.

Okay, thanks, so no problems supplying 24V to the Duet and using 3V steppers?

That will be fine.
This may help choose motors: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Choosing_and_connecting_stepper_motors

Stepper motors are current driver, it is the work of the stepper-driver chip to chop the power-supply voltage so the current is at it adjusted value. When it is at it adjusted value the voltage on the stepper motor will be to at the proper value too.
