I am looking to run a smartphone on the front of my printer as an interface/camera. Ideally I'd like to power this from the 5v supply on the duet wifi. The current draw is 2.4 A for the phone, can the duet 5v pins provide this?

The maximum recommended current from +5V is 2A total. Your phone will probably draw no more than 500mA except when it is connected to a high current charger that it recognises.

while running with screen on and camera recording most phone will use more than the 2.5W you get with 500mA.

if you are running 12v from your power supply have a look at Autoleader 12V to 5V Dual USB Power Adapter

@veti said in Max current 5V pins:

I would expect the phone to draw most of the current from its battery in that case. USB devices should draw no more than 500mA until they negotiate a higher current with the USB host. But of course 500mA isn't going to keep the battery charged if the phone actually needs 2.4A in that configuration.

Rather than connecting directly to the Duet, consider getting something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/BlueFire-Waterproof-Voltmeter-Motorcycle-Black-Blue/dp/B07MKFYQHQ/

They can be wired directly to your PSU and should provide exactly what the phone needs to charge. Then you can use a plain USB cable. Plus it also has a handy voltage display.
