Creailty CR 10S PRO / Duet WiFi Signal strength concern

  • I'm considering replacing the stock board in my CR10 Pro with a Duet WiFi. I have a Duet in by BLV Cube and love it! I am a little concerned that the CR10 Pro's all metal enclosure will block /effect the wifi reception. I have a spare Duet with with the onboard WiFi module and am hoping not to have to buy one with the external antenna option. It is an all steel case, not alumanum.

Has anyone had luck with full metal enclosures like this?

  • @RandyL When I mounted my Duet into the all-metal case of a PowerMac G4, WiFi was dead. So I decided to add an external antenna to the ESP8266. Strictly spoken this is illegal in most countries, but it works very well 😎. I followed these instructions - it is a german site, but the pictures talk for themselves.

  • @RandyL A 2.4GHz (or 5GHz for that matter) radio signal cannot pass through a metal box. It will not work.

if you're refering to exceeding the EIRP then you probably need a highly directional antenna to break compliance, but its a good point - firmware option to reduce the tx power should be made avaiable when the product is available with external antenna connectors from the manufacturer.
