So I set up two spools of filament, set up the load/unload settings for them, and loaded them in so that each of my two hot-ends had the appropriate filament loaded. I proceeded to run my print.
My expectation was that having done this (and the entire reason I did this at all) was that each of the spools I loaded would keep a running tally of the filament used by that hot-end. So before running a print, I could check how much filament had been used from the spools, compare it with the filament required for the print, and get a good estimate of whether I'd run out or not.
But for the life of me, I can't seem to find where this tally is being tracked. I checked the filaments.csv file and dug around everywhere I could think of in the DWC menus, but couldn't find anything.

Would someone be willing to help me figure out what I missed/where to look/what else I need to do to get this working?
      Much obliged

No sorry, that's not part of the filaments functionality at all. I can move this to the DWC wishlist section though as a feature request.

Oh, I must have misunderstood then.
That would be lovely if you did though, seems like it would be a very useful feature and on the surface doesn't seem super difficult. You could probably automate the checking based off the gcode file header and a setting in the filament profile to define the starting spool length. But even just a dumb tracker would be wonderful 🙂
Would save me the trouble of updating a spreadsheet with every failed print, or one-off thing I print off quickly in between production runs.

I probably should have pointed you towards these links as well.

Yes it would be cool if filament tracking could become a more automated process. I've always wondered why QR codes or RFID tags didn't become more common on spools so that it could be scanned when loaded and then tracked.

there's also weight based tracking. If your spool mount had a load cell in it you could track the weight and if you know the spool weight that could be another easy way to know how much is left.

Personally, I just use a small kitchen scale to weight a roll before a print. I either have the weight of an empty spool that matches the style I want to use, or the manufacturer has included the weight of the empty spool on the roll, or I just use 250g as a safe bet.
