Adding duex5 and all motor stop working
-
Hi,
I got an used duex5 from a friend that had a blown driver 8 chip. He got himself a new duet3 and gave me his broken duex5 plus a replacement chip.
At first I had tested the duex5 board without replacing the chip by adding it to my system and the board did work fine with its remaining driver (except that blown driver). Now I have replaced that blown driver 8 chip with the chip I got with the board and I still get report from that one:
Error: short-to-ground reported by driver(s) 8 Error: over temperature shutdown reported by driver(s) 8
And now all my driver aren't working anymore when I add the duex5 to my system (including my duet wifi ones).
When I try to home/power my drives I get:10/21/2020, 12:48:38 AM Warning: motor phase A may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 0 1 Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 0 1 10/21/2020, 12:48:34 AM G28 Warning: motor phase A may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 6 7 9 Warning: motor phase B may be disconnected reported by driver(s) 6 7 9
When I remove the duex5 my driver on my duet wifi work fine again.
Any Ideas ? Should I try to desolder the chip and check if it works without that chip ?
Should I put back the old/broken driver onto it and check if it works then ?
Or should I better accept my try to repair it as failed and get myself a new duex5 ?M115 output:

there is very special requirements for wiring the duex5.

see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Duex2_and_Duex5_Features#Section_Wiring
observe the length and how its wiredI have double checked the wiring (polarity, continuity) and can't find a problem.
For soldering I removed all the connections, took the board out, did the soldering, waited for cooldown of the board, checked the chip soldering visually, did put the duex5 back in and the wiring as it was before when the duex5 did work before the soldering.I think I need a more detailed idea/answer what can cause that issues that all drivers start to report an error. Is this problem common at all when there is a wiring issue ?
m115 finds the duex5 .. so can the wiring really being the problem here ?I think I try to undo the soldering and check if it is back to previous working state then.

post a picture of your wiring and soldering

different question:
I have a fully working duex5 board that works fine with my duet wifi.
I am now getting curious and desolder one of the driver chips on the duex5 ( reported as number 8 ) .. will the board still work fine without that chip in its place ?
-
@Scachi Yes, but it will likely complain. You can use M569 P8 R-1 to disable that stepper.
As Veti says, post a photo of your wiring and soldering. Obviously something got fried during the replacement, but pretty hard to say what.

Please note:
I have removed the chip again, while doing so I did see a note on the backside of the duex5 that this one is a cloned board.
Feel free to ignore all this as I don't feel comfortable to bother you asking for help for hardware that is cloned. Feel free to lock/delete the thread.
I have ordered a valid/offical duex5 board now and will report if everything works fine with that.Thank you both for your answers.
Now I had the chance to take some photos of its current state, I have removed the chip again:

I have a command in my config to power on the motors after boot of the duet for my corexy:
; move a bit to power up all motors G91 G1 H2 X0.01 Y0.01 Z0.01 G90
When I remove the duex5 without changing anything in the config my x+y motors gets powered.
With the duex5 attached the x+y motors aren't getting powered anymore. This doesn't change if I connect the z-motors to the driver on the duex or if I let them disconnected. Here is the complete config:

I have removed the chip again,
You photo looks OK as far as I can see, however I suggest you check carefully for tiny solder bridges between the pads for the removed chip. A likely reason for no chips working (including drivers on the main board) is a short between one of the SPI MISO, MOSI or SCK pads and another pad.
