WE JST conenctors
typo? or is this a bootlace / ferrule type thing and not the open barrel terminals like JST ZH and VH used on the Duet 3 range?
-
@bearer Well, you are right.. JST seams not to be the correct description of the connectors we have at the Duet. I think that "WR-WTB is the better description:

This are the connectors which came with all of my Duets.Cheers, Chriss

Duet 2 uses just KK254 connectors. These can be crimped using Engineer PA09 or PA21 manual crimp pliers, and by various low-cost ratchet crimp pliers.
Duet 3 uses both KK254 and VH396 connectors. The VH396 connectors can be crimped by Engineer PA21 crimp pliers.

Not that I plan to move to Duet3's any time soon (currently running 10 printers each with a Duet2Wifi+Paneldue) but do you mean that the PA21 will crimp VH396 pins or that it is actually designed to crimp them? I've tried the cheap ratcheting crimpers and the PA09 for KK254 and while they kinda work, the Molex 63811-8200 crimpers were totally worth the investment.
I think I had installed five Duets with the cheap ones when I finally talked myself into buying the Molex crimpers and the next five Duets went much faster.

size is the only difference - its no more suited for VH than the PA09 is for the smaller terminals; in a business setting the proper tool from Molex will make more sense. (but for the tinkering-at-home user the engineer tool will make perfectly fine crimps at a reasonable cost.

is probably what @Chriss would be after, JST is the manufacturer of the larger (and smaller) crimps used on the Duet3 - the Duet2 is all Molex branded crimps.

It's not just size, it's also the shape and depth of the curves at the top of the die. That's why you need the PA21 to crimp JST VH pins and not the PA20.

Thanks a lot for your answers.
I found a very good solution from a nice Company, they have a nice system where you can by the pliers and add inserts for various connectors.
https://www.rennsteig.com/en/products/crimping/200-crimp-system-tool-pew-12I talked a bit with the support and they told me that there insert "624 1324 3 0" should work with the WE connectors.
I will send them some connectors and some wires for testing now. Let's see what they say after there tests.
That may sounds a bit over the top but I love good tools and I'm sure that it makes sense to support good engineering. I think that this is the case with duet, isn't it?
Cheers, Chriss

These ones work really nicely: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32910569929.html
Went from lots of frustration trying to crimp all the connectors for the duet to sweet sweet progress.

https://www.engineertools-jp.com/pad111213Initially I bought the large dies and the small dies (which supposedly covers everything), but was forever swapping them. The medium dies do what the PA21 does (plus a couple of larger sizes).
