Changing from maestro to WiFi board

Hello
My printer is currently running a maestro board. I want to use that board in another machine and swap it with a WiFi board. What is the easiest way to do this?
Can I just put the maestro sd card in the WiFi board and then set up WiFi?
Or should I set it up as a new board and afterwards copy over the config.g?
Or is there a better way? -
you'll get 95% of the way there just moving the sd card.
You may have to change the odd pin name but other than that you should be ok -
which wifi version. the new mini 5 wifi? duet wifi is nearing its eol.
if you just want wifi the best solution would be to get a small wifi access point and do ethernet to wifi with it.

Don't be too sure about that. It's likely to remain available for a long time to come, at least as long as OEMs are using it in their printers.
It would be best to set it up with a new config on the latest 3.2 firmware using the online config tool. You can compare the config it generates to your own and add anything you think it missing.

yes but dc42 said its getting close to its limit in terms of available ram.

Maxing out the ram would just mean the feature set gets locked down. Remains to be seen what that limitation will actually mean.
I would say that the mini5+ is the safer bet in the medium term. Currently if you absolutely need more drivers the Duet2 + Duex is the best option. But once the canbus on the mini5 is fully exploited and you can use 2 mini5+ boards together I think it takes the crown.
And I hate to say it, but I think clone Duet2 boards will likely be available for years to come.

This is an interesting conversation that I'd love to continue on the appropriate thread.
The Duet boards without network connectivity and without its own application interface, moving these services to an external board, it is becoming another Arduino style hardware and ecosystem, where Duet is the equivalent of RAMPS.
It is now going in the other direction of the hardware industry, which is all about concentration instead of external modules.I bet that the success of Duet boards were mostly because of the single board approach. At least it was for me, a dream to be true, not having to worry with multiple moving parts, a single firmware to worry about, a board that had everything that one needed to.
Not having enough ram looks to me to be a poor explanation. There is probably more about this decision that I am not getting it.

I already have a duet2 Wifi. Thanks for the suggestion.
