Update CR-10+Duet wifi from 2.05.1 to 3.0 firmware
-
Hi guys,
i beleave this is going to be a long topic, because, no matter how much I study, I don't learn about this codes and setting, etc etc. So, i am a "plug and Play" lover. So i have on my machine the version 2.05.1 and i just download the:
Duet2and3Firmware-3.0 and the Duet2CombinedFirmware.1º problem: on Yat, i have the message:
"Turn off the current wifi mode before selecting a new one<LF>ok<LF>.Well, i have my printer on my garage, so, without wifi avaiable, thats why i had an access point defined. Dont know how its done, because i had someone who did it for me!
Is it better to disassemble my board and bring it home to make this updates?

please read
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Installing_and_Updating_Firmware
you will also need to update your configuration.
please read
https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/RepRapFirmware_3_overview#Section_Summary_of_what_you_need_to_do_to_convert_your_configuration_and_other_files -
@Veti Man... you´re fast... eh eh
-
All right, i see... have to remove the card and start from scratch... is that correct?
-
@Hélder-Rocha
no
first you update the firmware to 3.0 (including wifi)then 3.2
then you modify the config.g with the new syntax
-
@Veti i already download it and when asked if i whated to upload it, i said "yes".
After that, the board restarted.
On yat, to start over again, i sent "M552 S2" to restart my access point and i just recieved the message:
"Turn off the current wifi mode before selecting a new one<LF>ok<LF" -
If you still have access to DWC. Upload these 3 zip files, one at a time. Don't extract them. Reboot after each. Use M115 to verify the firmware has been applied.
https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/2.05.1/Duet2Firmware-2.05.1.zip
https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/3.0/Duet2and3Firmware-3.0.zip
https://github.com/Duet3D/RepRapFirmware/releases/download/3.2/Duet2and3Firmware-3.2.zip
That will get your firmware and DWC up to date. For your config, might be a good idea to run through the configurator tool and generate a fresh set for RRF3.
https://configtool.reprapfirmware.org/StartIf you don't have access to DWC at the moment, it might be easiest to connect the board via USB and use Bossa to flash your desired firmware. Then place the DWC files for that version in the /www folder on the SD card. Then as long as your config.g has M552 S1 to enable networking and you've added the SSID and password at least once before, it should connect to your network. Sending M552 by itself should tell you what IP address it has which you can use to connect to the web interface.

https://configtool.reprapfirmware.org/StartThis, after instaling the new firmware, right?
About "Bossa" ... is it easy to work with? Never heard about it!

Bossa will let you flash a firmware directly to the board over USB. Int he link above it's listed as fallback #3.
I suggest you go through that page again and try fallback 1, 2 and 3 if you don't currently have access to the DWC.
-
@Phaedrux allright, step 01 is done. I recovered access to the DWC after doing fallback #1.
Now, going back to the your previous help. You say to upload the firmware 2.05.1, but i already have that one installed! -

I know, but uploading the entire zip file ensures that you have the firmware, the DWC, the wifi server firmware, and any other required IAP files in place in case you wanted to downgrade in the future.
-
@Phaedrux ok... now, other question... last time i tried to upload firmware 3.0, after the board restart, i lost the possibility of access my wifi access point given by the board. Thats how i can get access to the DWC....
case that happens again, how can i reach the DWC? -
it is instaling the 2.05 for over 40 minutes. Is it normal?

case that happens again, how can i reach the DWC?Sometimes the wifi server firmware update will fail to update. When this happens you can usually get it going again by connecting by USB terminal (or panel due if you have one) and sending M997 S1 to flash the wifi server firmware again.

No that's abnormally long. Power cycle the board and see what is up.
-
Done... version 3.2 installed.
-
It was my fault... I thought the access point was restored, but no! Now i think i have some changes to do on the config file and home settings to right? can you tell me where can i fin help to see the changes i have to do?
-
https://configtool.reprapfirmware.org/Start
For your config, might be a good idea to run through the configurator tool and generate a fresh set for RRF3. Compare what it generates to your existing config.
You can find some additional details on what is different about RRF3 here: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/RepRapFirmware_3_overview
If you post your old config.g and new config.g we can note anything else that would need to change.
-
@Phaedrux
you are tireless, but maybe we will leave it for tomorrow. I was seeing a toturial left by Chris Basement about those changes, where he does it directly in the files. It doesn't seem bad, considering what I went through to understand the previous RRF I tried, but I couldn't do it, because there are many steps I don't understand on the RRF panel!
Also, wouldn't I have to change all access to my board via wifi to be able to work from RFF3? -
Yes 's not too bad. Having a config from the web tool to compare against is still really handy though.

I'm not sure what you mean by this.
-
@Phaedrux good morning. when you refere to RRF3 you are talking about the RepRap Configurating tooll, right? Or you suggest to go directly to the files and change one by one?
