Questions/reality check about upgrading to 3.3beta1
-
I have a 6HC main board and three 3HC expansion boards - stand alone - no SBC.
Q1. I assume that I just need the two files "Duet3Firmware_MB6HC.bin" and Duet3Firmware_EXP3HC.bin" and nothing else yes?
Q2. I note the release notes state "Firmware files are now stored in folder /firmware of the SD card instead of /sys". Do I need to "manually" create that folder or will it be automatically created when I upload the files?
Q3. Do I need to delete any of the old files from the SD card?
Q4. Is the procedure to update expansion board firmware still just a matter of uploading the relevant file and sending M997 Bn or something else?
Thanks

- You may need Duet3_SDiap32_MB6HC.bin if it's not on your system yet. It's also in the list of releases files. Adding it won't hurt I guess.
- I have updated a printer with MB6HC and Toolboard (no expansion board) to 3.3.b1 without creating the /firmware folder. I don't see that one was created, but the update succeeded without it.
- I did not delete any files from the SD card for the update
- Yes, although with early release toolboards you should reboot the whole system quickly after updating (mine decided to run the heater at full blast, which is attributed to early toolboard revisions with early bootloaders).
Caveat: I run my printer in SBC mode.

After you have upgraded, upload Duet3_SDiap32_MB6HC.bin from the beta release. This will put it in the /firmware folder, where it will be needed when you next upgrade or downgrade.
Q2. I note the release notes state "Firmware files are now stored in folder /firmware of the SD card instead of /sys". Do I need to "manually" create that folder or will it be automatically created when I upload the files?
It will create it for you.
Q3. Do I need to delete any of the old files from the SD card?
No.
Q4. Is the procedure to update expansion board firmware still just a matter of uploading the relevant file and sending M997 Bn or something else?
It's still the same. DWC will offer to install the expansion board firmware when you upload it, and will offer to reboot the main board afterwards. As you have multiple expansion boards, you may see warning messages of the form "Board N does not have heater M" just before the reboot. You can ignore them.
