paneldue connector doesn't fit - can I change it?

I have a PanelDue 5i and it's connected to a MB6HC. All good.
However, I'm trying to shoe-horn it into a particular location in my existing printer enclosure, and the four-wire cable connector is in the absolutely worst position. Even with careful tweaking I can't get smaller than about a 3.5mm clash. Even that is reducing the thickness of a structural piece of enclosure frame more than I'd like (it's right by a screw holding pieces together - I don't want to redesign the structure of the enclosure, which predates getting my PanelDue). I could put the PanelDue elsewhere, but it's nicest at the preferred location.
Is there any good reason not to remove the four-wire connector and directly solder the wires to the PanelDue board?
Alternatively, are the DO and DI pins in the ribbon connector the same as Din and Dout on the four-wire? Could I make up a connector that connects the four wires to the ribbon connector?

If I remember correctly, the ribbon cable socket is for using a SD card on the PanelDue. Do not use it myself...
Power is supplied via the 4pin connector, again iirc.If your soldering skills are good, go with your suggestion of wiring directly.
It may invalidate your warranty.P.

@achrn all pins on the 4-way connector are also on the ribbon cable connector.

Thanks. I see pins that have the same labels now too, not sure how I missed that previously.
I decided to desolder the four-wire anyway to get more space for structure, so having done that I decided I may as well direct connect the wires. Seems OK.
