I have a 1.1 toolboard and am powering a fan and hotend. I am running my hotend thermocouple back to the main board where I have a thermocouple daughterboard.
This setup creates an immediate fault of my hotend. I don't get an error code. The heater status just goes from active to fault and I have to reset it. I read:
"A heater on an expansion or tool board can only be controlled by a temperature sensor on the same expansion board. This is a safety precaution."

Does this mean my configuration is not going to work? I'd really like to use a thermocouple instead of using one of the other ports on the motherboard. I guess I could run heater wires back to the main board but that's kind of taking away from the purpose of having a toolboard in the first place.

You've quoted the relevant part, that the temp sensor must be connected to the expansion board where the heater is connected.

So clearly trying to use a sensor, in this case your thermocouple, connected to the main board violates that rule.

Are the alternative temp sensors that can connect to the expansion board unsatisfactory in your application?

@fcwilt A PT1000 sensor may work. I print at very high temperatures and would like to maintain the performance of a thermocouple though.

To date I've only used thermistors. As part of my ongoing education I just got a few PT1000 units to try.

I've heard of thermocouples but know little about them.

Is there any sort of device that can allow using a thermocouple to a connection that supports a PT1000?

            Thanks.
