    Need some help using inductive sensors as endstops

      Hi,

      I am planning to use the omron TL-Q5MC2 (NPN NC) inductive sensors as endstops on my delta printer with a rev 1.03 duet 2 WiFi at 24V

      I've read around multiple discussions with using Schottky diodes in series with the output pin but only on the context of the NO sensors. I've also seen people talking about using optocouplers.

      What would work in my case?

        @atlantic When I was using an inductive probe, I used a relay module to connect it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077ZLC78L

          @stephen6309 thanks for your response, while a relay is a good idea I was looking to do it in a solid state manner, I have my eyes on one of these optocoupler boards - https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqkSCJQ

            @atlantic I liked the relay since it has a nice click, also the relay output is just like a microswitch. The endstop and zprobe inputs can only handle 5vdc on the 1.03.

              @stephen6309, have you looked into possible timing variations introduced by the relay? (Since they are translated to Z height variations).

                The opto board I suggested is rated to 3khz so it should be plenty fast enough, just dunno if it will work or how to wire it

                  @atlantic, have you considered using other probes? In the voron world the omron inductive probes are very popular but the consensus is that they are good for relative height (e.g. mesh) rather than absolute height (e.g. homing). For this reason, the vorons also have an additional micro switch for accurate homing.

                  Some simplify it by dropping the inductive probe and Z homing switch and use a stowaway probe such as Klicky or Euclid.

                    @zapta from what I've seen the inductive probes have very good repeatability better than that of a microswitch in fact. These are going to be used as endstops on my printer, I have a smart effector but that's only as good as your endstops on a delta.

                          If my match is correct, at 10mm/s, 10ms translates to 0.1mm which is significant for Z homing.

                            @zapta I never had a problem with an inductive on a relay with setting Z0 everytime I homed.

                              IIRC, the Duet Mini5+ input has high voltage tolerance. Not sure about the Duet2 hence the diode.

                              (If you rely on high voltage tolerance, please check yourself, don't take my post here as a fact).
