Double Z optical endstops possible?
-
Hi,
is it possible to use double Z optical endstops to level the heatbed in the direction between dual Z-motors?

It's possible, using axis remapping in the homing files. You temporarily split the X axis into Z and e.g. U using M584, then you home Z and U concurrently using a G1 S1 Zxxx Uxxx command, then you use M584 to assign them both to Z again. But if you have a Z probe, why not use the automatic levelling facility instead? See https://duet3d.com/wiki/Bed_levelling_using_multiple_independent_Z_motors.

Hi,
thx for the long response.I do not have a probe. I wanted to use two seperate "normal" optical endstops on both sides of the heatbed to automatically "level" it. (not for real leveling, just for keeping both leadscrews in sync).
But i have now found another "problem": the normal DuetWIFI i already purchased has not enough Z-Stepper drivers IIRC. I guess normally both Z-motors are controlled by one driver?
Since i want to keep the option to print two different filaments i will need both extruder drivers…..Greetings,

I wrote a blog-post on how to set it all up a while back… actually after this thread was made, but still, here it is
