@zbeeble said in Paneldue v3 7 inch no touch.:

Now the screen shows "press dot" ... with a dot. But I can't press anything.

Well yes: the dot. This is the procedure to calibrate the touch display. So, touch the dot 👆

@infiniteloop As I just tried to tell you, touching the dot does nothing. Before the upgrade and reflash, touch seemed to be broken. It also seems to be broken after the upgrade. Also upside down, but I assume that's a setting.

But maybe pressing the screen - before the update - did something? I'm sorry, but I have no idea how to fix that 😢

@infiniteloop Yeah... I was kinda hoping that someone from the company or support team could comment --- looking for diagnostic.

@zbeeble You may have flashed the wrong firmware onto the panel. Do you have a genuine Panel Due or a clone? I have a clone which has v2 (or v3 , I can't remember) printed on the board but is actually a 7i and so uses firmware file ending in *-7.0i.bin.

Again from memory, a couple of years ago, I remember that I tried a few firmware files and was always able to recover using the BOSSA programmer, so no harm done flashing the wrong file. I know one displayed correctly but touch did not work. Another displayed colors wrong and was upside down (and could not be flipped in settings).

Try to figure out if you have a clone? If you can't then post pics of front and back of board and I'm sure someone here can help.

@tinker That wouldn't explain it's state when I first powered it up, tho --- it also didn't have touch working. I will try the 7i firmware, however, and take some pictures.

@tinker OK. Loading the 'c' version just gave me a black screen. re-loading the non-c version gives me:

                  https://nextcloud.towernet.ca/s/Rm6HpWQAoHjiTcZ

again, pressing the spot does nothing.

Here are the other images of the unit:

... it's clearly a v3 daughterboard, but I don't see any telling markings on the display.

@zbeeble The touch portion of the screen seems to be attached with a separate set of mylar wires. I deoxit'ed them and reseated them. I also cleaned the screen surface with a bit of glasses cleaner --- but nothing. Still no touch.

Sounds like the digitizer on the screen portion has failed.

If you've seated all the connectors and wires correctly and it's still not working it's likely the screen itself. I'm not sure if that's something fixable or not. At least the Duet interface portion is still working correctly as the interface comes up and it takes a flash.

I'll see if there is anything that could be done to solve the digitizer not working, but if not, the screens themselves are commonly available parts.

@phaedrux Thanks. ideally trying to avoid buying a new screen, but I suppose it is what it is.

@zbeeble Sorry I missed the second comment when you said touch was not working before flashing.

@zbeeble the Filastruder touch membranes for the 5i and 7i, see https://www.filastruder.com/collections/electronics/products/paneldue-5i-7i-touchscreen-glass-only. Maybe one of these would fit https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002839824226.html or one of these https://www.buydisplay.com/accessory/touch-panel (make sure you select a resistive one).

@dc42 Thanks. Sigh. But you see. deminimis (the amount at which you pay duty) is $20 Canadian. This is about $18 USD. I will be charged $20 for the privilege of duty being figured out by the post. so I will pay $20 USD for the item, $21 USD for the tax, $20 CAD for duty and $3 CAD (roughly) for tax.

                                  ... so in CAD, that's 24 + 25 + 20 + 3 = $72

... and the Canadian retailer is selling some seemingly authentic (not the Israeli company) 7i panels (a slight upgrade) for about the same money ... and I get it in a day or two. and I can still think about repairing this panel some day, if that possibility appears.
