Trouble wiring 3 pin fans
-
I just got a Duet 6hc and trying to wire up some 3 pin fans to be controlled. They are either always on if i use the default pinout or if i try to re wire it they do nto turn on at all. I am using these two fans https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NQLT0M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VVGHTSR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
both do the same thing. -
@crowem you need to connect the fan positive supply wire (usually red) to the VFAN pin of the 4-pin fan connector and the negative wire (usually black) to the FAN- pin. You can also connect the fan tacho wire (usually yellow) to the TACH pin but it will only read correctly when the fan is running at full speed.
3-pin fans are not designed to be used with PWM, so controlling the speed using PWM may not work well.

@crowem I use the Noctua 4010 fan with Duet 3 Mini 5+ and like dc42 said, i connect to the 4 pin PWM port as follows:
GND not used VOUT+ Red Wire out.tach Yellow Wire out- Red Wire
this gives the full functionality showing the RPM as well.
