Duet 2/3 Wifi Long Standing Issue.
-
I have 3 duet boards (one a duet 2 wifi, and the two others Mini 5+) and all three have the same issue, and the issue persists across Windows and Linux platforms (also Android is almost impossible to keep connected). Here's how it goes...
- Printer is turned on.
- Browser is loaded up and IP address is entered, almost always a successful connection (and it's solid).
- Computer is turned off then back on, or restarted. (the duet kiss of death)
- Almost NEVER a successful connection when the browser is reopened.
Sometimes it fixes itself (with enough time)...
One time I had some type of minor stoppage (most likely a filament feed error) on the Duet 2 board and had the computer do a windows update overnight. No connection in the morning prior to the stoppage so figured I had lost the print when it happened... However, when I reopened the browser it actually came back on its own.Usual solution:
-
I have to turn off the printer and then turn it back on, then go back to the computer and refresh the browser.
-
Android is always hit and miss, I usually don't even bother anymore, but I wish it worked.
I have an ASUS router and it does use a hybrid 5Ghz / 2.4Ghz Mode. Usually, the PCs connect in 5Ghz mode, but I don't know why this would really matter, as everything goes through the router. Also if it matters the printers are reserved DHCP, and I believe I have the address set in the configs too. (I'd check, but prints are in progress and I just had to reset... = )
- Going to sleep does NOT affect the connection, PC wakes up & printer is working in the browser.
- Simply closing the browser does not affect the connection, it almost always comes right back.
I'll post my related config details as soon as I can.
MANY MANY thanks to anyone who can help. I've been dealing with this for forever. -

all three have the same issue,
This would indicate the issue is on the router side rather than the Duet itself.

The Duet can only communicate over 2.4ghz. Occasionally we've seen routers try to push the Duet over to the 5ghz SSID erroneously. Can you configure the router to create a dedicated 2.4 ghz SSID?

@Phaedrux
Thank you very much for the response.
I think you may be onto something. The router type is an ASUS RT-AC88U, and there is a way to disable the maybe not so "Smart Connect" feature. This allows for only the 2.4 or 5 Ghz band. I set it to 2.4, and all three printers connected in short order. Gonna call it quits for tonight, but I will have to do some reset testing very soon here.
Hopefully, I can call this solved!
In case anyone wants to know the config...
